In Ayurvedic literature, Takradhara is a unique therapeutic procedure where medicated buttermilk (Takra) is continuously poured in a rhythmic manner over the forehead or the entire scalp. The term comes from “Takra” meaning buttermilk and “Dhara” meaning continuous flow.
This treatment has a calming effect on the mind and nervous system, making it especially beneficial for stress-related disorders, insomnia, psoriasis, premature greying, and hair fall. Takradhara helps balance Pitta and Vata doshas, cools the body, and promotes deep relaxation. It rejuvenates the brain, improves concentration, and supports emotional well-being.
Procudure :-
- A gentle application of Brahmi oil is done on the scalp and forehead to relax the mind.
- Medicated buttermilk, prepared with cooling herbs, is poured in a continuous, rhythmic stream over the forehead (Ajna Chakra) for about 40 minutes.
- The therapy soothes the nervous system and helps manage stress, insomnia, psoriasis, and premature greying.
- After the session, the patient is asked to rest for 5–10 minutes. The head is gently wiped and Brahmi oil is reapplied.
- The patient is advised to avoid sun, cold wind, or loud noise, and to take a warm shower after 30–60 minutes.
